Weber-Morgan Health Department would like to remind residents that it's that time of year when mosquitos carrying West Nile Virus start circulating and people need to be mindful of taking preventive measures. Mosquito pools in Weber County and throughout Utah have tested positive for the virus this summer. Residents can protect themselves by using insect repellent containing DEET, wearing long sleeves and pants and removing standing water around homes.
Anyone bitten by an infected insect can contract the disease which can cause lifelong neurological effects in addition to temporary aches, fever and flu-like symptoms.
West Nile watch season will continue through summer and into fall.
