The Kiesel Avenue facility was built in
1983 to take the place of the "old jail" located
on top of the City/County building. In 1990, an addition was
built to accommodate a greater number of inmates. In August
of 2000, inmates were transferred to the 12th Street facility.
The Kiesel facility was then reconfigured to become a work
release and community service facility. The following offenders
are now placed in the Kiesel Avenue facility:
- Community Service Offenders
- Work Release Offenders
- Half-way Out Offenders
- Half-way Back Offenders
- Weekenders
The offenders housed at the Kiesel facility
are given additional privileges not offered at the 12th Street
facility. Some are assigned to the Ogden City Animal Shelter
to help with daily chores. In addition, Community Service
workers provide assistance to Weber County Property Management,
Ogden City, the Weber County Fairgrounds, the Weber County
Transfer Station, and the Weber County Sheriff's Complex.
